Description of Operation
The accelerometers of your iPhone or iPod touch sense acceleration in six directions (three axis). At rest your iPhone feels the acceleration of gravity pulling down. The iPhone uses the acceleration of gravity to estimate its current orientation (to figure out which way is down), but we can capture this data and make some estimations of our own.
In addition to accelerometers, the iPhone has a built in location services that use cell phone towers, wifi, and built in GPS to estimate the phone’s location as longitude, latitude, and altitude. This data can also be captured and used in our analysis.
Dynolicious Log Box gives you access to this captured data to allow you to do your own processing for your own purposes.
What can you do with Dynolicious Log Box?
By surfacing the raw data from your iPhone or iPod touch, you can gain knowledge of an activity, or supplement data retrieved by other methods. A few of the many things you could do with Dynolicious Log Box:
- Use your iPhone to supply GPS data to be incorporated with photos (geocoding).
- Ride a roller-coaster with your iPhone or iPod to find out how many Gs a particular ride pushes.
- Capture data from a track day or autocross run. Analyze your runs or compare against previous runs.
- Put your iPhone in your car to keep tabs on your teen’s driving habit when you’re not in the car.
These are just a few ideas, Dynolicious Log Box was built as an tool for you to use however you might see fit.
